Happiness or Joy

You may choose happiness or choose Joy! There is a difference. Happiness is temporary. Joy is a gift from God.

Choose Joy!

"It's a lot easier said than done."

That's what I think when I'm confronted with many of the obstacles in my life. It's easy to get bogged down by life's daily demands . Some of us have jobs that are demanding. Others may be trying to juggle work, school and family obligations. Whatever it is, we all struggle from time to time trying to get it all done and get it all done well.

With all that we have competing for our time, something usually gets neglected. The part of life that we usually neglect is ourselves. In all our efforts to please our families, to impress our bosses and succeed academically, taking time out for ourselves tends to get lost in the shuffle. When we get lost in the shuffle, our joy gets lost as well. Losing our joy begins to take its toll on every area of our lives and when that happens our lives can become toxic. When our lives become toxic, our bodies' defenses are weakened and we become ill.

This being true, it is imperative that we have joy in our lives. It's been said that people who laugh are healthier than those who don't laugh. When we think about it, that is a reasonable conclusion. So, what it all means is at the end of a day, month, week or year full of stressful multitasking, we must take time for ourselves to find and do that thing that truly makes us happy and gives us joy.

Family vacations are a great opportunity do something fun for ourselves and spend time with our families as well. Finding a hobby or an interesting project can be wonderfully fulfilling. Certainly finding someone special to do things with can be enjoyable and stress relieving. Experiencing joy sometimes means letting down our guards and becoming vulnerable and open to new experiences. But when it's all said and done we are the ones in control of the level of personal joy we experience.

Choose Joy! Having joy in your life is a conscious choice and takes effort. Joy doesn't just happen on its own. You create an atmosphere in your life that welcomes Joy. Live well, be happy and prosper.
